As Iceland suspends Moderna The Times urges more exports to developing world
NYT chastises pharmaceutical company for not sending more jabs to Third World
On Oct. 8, Iceland announced that it was halting Moderna Covid-19 jabs for people of all ages due to safety concerns. This is from Bloomberg:
The following day, The New York Times ran its own Moderna story. Here is the opening paragraph:
Moderna, whose coronavirus vaccine appears to be the world’s best defense against Covid-19, has been supplying its shots almost exclusively to wealthy nations, keeping poorer countries waiting and earning billions in profit.
The article goes on to chastise the company for not selling more jabs to the developing world. There is no mention of Iceland or the safety concerns that have compelled the Nordic countries to restrict use of the vaccine. In fact, I did not find any Times coverage of Iceland’s decision.
